My grandmother is the sweetest ever. Let me start off by first telling you that she is the mother of 7, and the grandmother of more than 50! Remarkably, she always recognizes my voice when I call...I love that. So, I'll get on with it. Each Halloween (and Valentines Day), she makes a bazillion sugar cookies (probably more like 600) and sends them to everyone in the family...I really mean everyone! She knows how much we love her cookies. Although we tell her she doesn't have to keep this up, she continues to anyway. She wraps them up, boxes them, then bubble wrap, then another box! They always come broken and we love them just the same. Thanks Grandma!
These are honestly the best ever sugar cookies! I don't think she would mind me sharing her recipe with you.
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 tbsp sour cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp lemon extract
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Cream butter and sugar, add sour cream, vanilla, and lemon extract. Add eggs one at a time. Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Combine dry and wet ingredients, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Roll out very thin (they rise when you bake them) and cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Transfer to cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for approximately 7 - 8 min, until edges are light brown.
Icing:
1 lb powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
Mix all ingredients together.
To let my grandma know how much I appreciate her, I made her a pumpkin card!
